Program for Adults with Mental Illness providing assistance with daily living skills and tools needed to work on recovery |
| The Park Center Pre-Vocational Employment Program is based on the successful Clubhouse Model of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, which is a comprehensive and dynamic program of 'recovery' for people with severe and persistent mental illness. In contrast to traditional day-treatment models, clubhouse participants are called "members" (as opposed to "patients" or "clients") and recovery focuses on their strengths and abilities, not their illness. The Clubhouse operates on the philosophy that working is rehabilitative.
The work units offered at Park Center simulate a working environment by assigning members to perform tasks that support the operation and enhancement of the Center. Today, the Clubhouse operates with members and staff working along-side each other in the spirit of partnership in three working units : Clerical, Environmental and Food Services. Clerical Unit: The focus of the Clerical Unit focus is on the business and communication skills required in the workplace. The Clerical Unit provides members the opportunity to perform a wide range of clerical tasks and computer/data entry work. It is responsible for managing the in-house copy center, operating the switchboard, and processing the mail. Communication skills are reinforced by members greeting members and guests at the reception desk, providing tours for new members and staff and providing an in-agency messenger service. Environmental Unit: The Environmental Unit is responsible for the physical upkeep of the building. Members are assigned tasks of cleaning offices and conference rooms. Additionally, members assist the staff in regular maintenance of the building. Food Service Unit: The Food Service work area is responsible for the maintenance and running of our Kitchen and Dining Room services. This integrated approach provides members with the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of tasks required to coordinate and manage food services. Members are involved in stocking shelves, menu planning, food preparation, cooking, waiting tables, cleaning, recycling, and inventory maintenance. Successful completion of these tasks enables Park Center to serve a hot lunch five times a week, full breakfast one time a week, and a monthly employment dinner. |
